Finally watching Trump's speech in Riyadh. It's hard for me to believe that anybody, even his most hardcore supporters, still find any of this passable. It's grating and practically unwatchable.

Totally monotonous, repetitive, meandering. And feels like such a stupid exercise when he reads one of these lines about the "neocons" that his speechwriter writes for him so that his surrogates can pretend like that is some kind of rhetorical breakthrough on Twitter.

It is what it is. He's an 80 year old man, his brain is shrinking, he refuses to learn how to deliver a speech with any kind of gravitas and his sycophants have him convinced that these are memorable performances.

I guess that's not really a problem in itself, I'm just sick of the fake hype and people pretending that this has any profundity or significance.

And what is most obnoxious is how satisfied Trump is with himself, it's dripping with smugness and contempt for the audience.

With regard to policy, I actually think what Trump is trying to achieve in the Middle East is extremely significant, unprecedented, noble, ambitious, creative, and commendable.

I am not in any way trying to put him down for trying or to dampen his and his supporters hope for a diplomatic breakthrough. In fact, I think it's heroic.

But, when we're dealing with Trump, it can never be forgotten that he is the personification of vaporware. So there is this combination of naivete and amnesia which is frustrating when his supporters are so credulous and eager to accept all of the rhetoric.
